Permission is the cornerstone of J9 Joy—the freedom to explore creativity fully, quiet the inner critic, and release the idea that perfection is required to make something meaningful and beautiful. This philosophy opens the door to learning and the opportunity to find your own artistic voice.

A person with short hair dyed purple and blue, wearing glasses, working on a craft project at a wooden worktable. The person is focused and using their hands to assemble or decorate objects. The worktable has various crafting supplies, a framed picture of purple and white floral fabric, a pink floral pencil case, and some tools. In the background, shelves contain boxes, books, and other miscellaneous items. A large water jug is near the person, and a camera or light stand partially obscures the view.

All the art you see is the result of that permission combined with a passion for beauty, recycling, upcycling, and nature and the deep desire to inspire others to take creative risks, explore freely, and discover what they’re capable of.

About Janine

Janine, founder of J9 Joy, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and earned a BA in Music from Columbia College before making her home in Los Angeles with her husband and creative partner, Ian Liebman, and their two boys. Though always creative, she once limited her art to personal projects until discovering the full quote, “A jack of all trades is master of none, though oftentimes BETTER than master of one,” which inspired her to embrace curiosity, explore new skills, and give herself permission to create freely. What began as a personal breakthrough evolved into J9 Joy—a never-growing creative journey that blends diverse techniques and inspirations, inviting others to explore their own creativity and turn interests into passions.
